Mission
To uplift the spirit and well-being of the poorest of the poor; the abused and the desolate through gift-giving, livelihood, nutritional and educational programs, classroom and housing projects, natural disaster relief and medical assistance.
History
In 1993, Tessie Alarcon (aka Tessie Calderon) then the current president of the World Bank Group IMF Filipino Staff Association, together with husband Pablito Alarcon founded Feed the Hungry, Inc. a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that will reach out to street children in the Philippines and provide them a good meal during the Christmas holidays. As the program progressed each year with the help of a group of Filipino American volunteers residing in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area and a number of World Bank Group and IMF Filipino staff doing fund-raising events within the community, Feed the Hungry evolved into an organization with programs geared not only to feeding malnourished children and gift-giving but had expanded to include educational programs providing scholarships and building classrooms, livelihood and infrastructure programs, and calamity relief and emergency medical assistance. Today, Feed the Hungry volunteers are involved in numerous projects that have assisted over a million program beneficiaries in all of the provinces in the Philippines and Metro Manila. Through partnerships and collaboration with government and non profit organizations in the Philippines, Feed the Hungry continues with ever growing volunteers and donors, to play a valuable role in assisting the poorest of the poor, providing resources for a better future for those in dire need and giving hope to the needy.
